About this limit
From 2026 entry, the UCAS personal statement is split into three questions. Each answer needs at least 350 characters, and the three together must not exceed 4,000 characters, including spaces.
There is no fixed limit for each answer, so you can spend more of your 4,000 characters on the question that matters most for your course.

How limitpad counts
UCAS counts characters including spaces and line breaks. limitpad counts each answer and the combined total live, and highlights any text past the 4,000-character mark in the last answer it reaches.
Tips
- Write each answer in full sentences. UCAS removes formatting, so avoid bullet points and bold text.
- Use question 1 to show genuine interest in the subject, question 2 for academic preparation, and question 3 for work experience, hobbies or responsibilities.
- Leave a little room under 4,000 characters. Pasting can add hidden line breaks.
