About limitpad

limitpad is a free word and character counter that knows your limit.

Most people count words because they have to stay within a limit, such as a 650-word college essay, a 4,000-character UCAS statement, a 280-character post or a meta description that Google won’t cut off. limitpad’s presets set everything up for you: pick what you’re writing, and you’ll see exactly how much room you have left and where you’ve gone over.

What makes it different

• Private by design. Your text never leaves your device. There’s no account, and nothing is uploaded.
• Fast and focused. One clean editor that loads instantly and works offline.
• Accessible. Built to WCAG 2.2 AA, so it works with screen readers, keyboards and high zoom.
• Honest counts. Choose standard, Microsoft Word or Google Docs counting rules, and see exactly how each one works.

Free to use

limitpad is free. If we add advertising in future, it will be a single ad per page, with no pop-ups, no video and nothing covering your text.
