About this limit
limitpad counts words, characters, sentences and paragraphs as you type, and estimates how long your text takes to read aloud or silently.
Most people count because they have a limit to meet. Choose a preset for an essay, application, social post, ad or search snippet, and limitpad sets the right limit and counting rules for you and highlights anything that runs over.
How limitpad counts
Words are separated by spaces, so contractions, numbers and web addresses each count as one word. Hyphenated words count as one word by default, which you can change in Settings. Emoji and accented letters count as one character each. Chinese and Japanese characters each count as a word, the same way Microsoft Word counts them.
Tips
- Your text is saved on this device only, so it is still here if you close the tab. Use Clear to remove it.
- Select part of your text to see counts for just that part.
- Switch presets at any time. Your text comes with you.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my text uploaded anywhere?
- No. All counting happens in your browser. limitpad never sends or stores your text.
- Why does my count differ from another tool?
- Tools disagree on hyphenated words, dashes and symbols. limitpad explains its rules above, and you can change how hyphens are counted in Settings. Always confirm on the official form before you submit.
- Does it work offline?
- Yes. After your first visit, limitpad keeps working without an internet connection.
