About this limit
Threads posts can be up to 500 characters long, including spaces, links and emoji, with no more than 5 links per post.
Official source: Threads API: posts
Limit last checked October 10, 2026.
How limitpad counts
limitpad counts each visible character, including spaces and line breaks, so an emoji counts as one. Posts published through the Threads API (for example by scheduling tools) count each emoji by its size in bytes, usually 4, so leave extra room for emoji there.
Tips
- Put the key point in the first line. Long posts are often skimmed.
- Keep to 5 links or fewer, or the post will fail to publish.
Frequently asked questions
- Do links count on Threads?
- Yes. Links count toward the 500 characters at their full length.
